Bachelor of Science in Geospatial Sciences

The Geospatial Sciences (GSS) degree integrates various geospatial technologies with applied research. The geospatial science degree will provide you with training in theory and application of geospatial technologies, including Geographic Information System (GIS), remote sensing, and land surveying.

The U.S. Geological Survey1 defines GIS, remote sensing, and land surveying as:

  • Geographic Information System (GIS): a computer system that analyzes and displays geographically referenced information.
  • Remote Sensing: the process of detecting and monitoring the physical characteristics of an area by measuring its reflected and emitted radiation at a distance (typically from satellite or aircraft).
  • Surveying or Land Surveying: the technique, profession, art, and science determining the terrestrial or three-dimensional positions of points and the distances and angles between them.

As a geospatial science major at Kennesaw State, you will build fundamental knowledge of geospatial skills, along with specific content in one of three concentrations:

  • Human-Environment Systems
  • Information Systems
  • Land Surveying

As a Geospatial Sciences graduate from ³ÉÈËÖ±²¥, you will be able to manipulate, analyze, assess, and visualize significant data used for digital mapping and map imaging to solve key issues. You’ll be able to pursue careers related to crime analysis, emergency services, engineering, epidemiology, environmental management, forestry, housing, marketing, military sciences, sustainability, land surveying, transportation, urban planning, utilities, and many others.
