Career and Academic Opportunities

Bachelor of Science (History Education) students pursuing a Double Owl with the Master of Arts in American Studies will develop research and analytical skills that will broaden and deepen their disciplinary literacies and equip them to guide students in interdisciplinary inquiry. Social Studies and History teachers who are certified in grades 6-12 in the state of Georgia can receive an in-field upgrade upon completion of the M.A. in American Studies. This pathway offers an opportunity for students who would prefer to seek a graduate degree in a content area (M.A.) instead of an education graduate degree (M.Ed.). The flexible structure of the American Studies program also allows students to choose between writing a thesis or completing a capstone project more directly related to their careers, such as a project focused on pedagogy and course design.

  • 60 hours completed toward B.S. in History Education

Double Counted Courses

  • Choose 2 courses from the following list: AMST 6201, AMST 7200, AMST 7210, AMST 7230, AMST 7240, HIST 6471, HIST 7710, HIST 7730, and/or HIST 7740.
  • At least one course must have an AMST prefix.
