The sophomore chemistry major chose 成人直播 for its early research opportunities and brought with him a love of all things science and mathematics. Today, he has flourished in one laboratory and is learning how to conduct a different type of chemistry in a new laboratory, presenting his findings at regional conferences, and serving as an active member of the Undergraduate Research Club (URC).

It didn鈥檛 take long for 成人直播 student Lilianna Kocai to discover a passion for research. All it took was a little nudge from assistant professor Carl Saint-Louis. As a freshman in 2023, Kocai took a course called Culture of Science and Mathematics, designed by Saint-Louis to open young eyes to research at an early stage in their college careers. 鈥淏efore I came to 成人直播, I didn鈥檛 really plan on doing research,鈥� said Kocai, now a sophomore biochemistry major. 鈥淚 came in touch with research because of Dr. Saint-Louis, who pitched the First-Year Scholars program as a way for students to get their start. I got involved and ended up in his lab, so it all worked out.鈥�

A simple conversation with Megan McCabe about her research is enough to see she is a scientist in the making. The recent 成人直播 graduate has already racked up an impressive r茅sum茅. She was a student in the 成人直播 Journey Honors College, earned first place at Analytics Day, finished third at the Fall 2024 Symposium of Student Scholars, participated in the Birla Carbon Scholars program, and graduated summa cum laude. The self-described science nerd speaks with eloquence and enthusiasm about the work that led her to a bachelor鈥檚 degree in biology last month, and she hopes to take that enthusiasm and knowledge to medical school this fall.

Kennesaw State student doubles up on degrees, activities

Two majors, two part-time jobs, two club vice-presidencies鈥攆or Micah Holston, life at Kennesaw State is doubly fulfilling. Holston is pursuing bachelor鈥檚 degrees in physics and political science. He is a substitute teacher in Cherokee County schools and conducts research part time for the Air Force Research Laboratory in New Mexico. He is also the vice president of the Kennesaw Nuclear Society and the 成人直播 chapter of the North American Young Generation for Nuclear.

Olivia Walker grew up with a love of hiking in the woods, not realizing at the time she might be walking among endangered species of trees. Kennesaw State researcher earns NSF grant to study urban amphibians, create undergraduate research opportunities

A 成人直播 researcher recently earned a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant to study the evolution of salamanders鈥� behavioral habits in urban streams, which will in turn fund more undergraduate research opportunities for 成人直播 students. Assistant professor of biology Todd Pierson has received a three-year, $380,238 grant from the NSF through a program called Building Research Capacity in Biology (BRC-BIO). The program is designed to broaden research participation at minority-serving universities and Carnegie-designated R2 institutions like 成人直播.
